Summit City Sluggers
WANT TO PLAY FOR THE SLUGGERS?
The easiest way to become part of the Slugger's program is to attend the annual tryout in mid to late August (2011 Tryout Date – August 22nd) At this workout player are organized into a professional scouting tryout format (Run 60 YD, OF / INF Defensive Skills Test, Batting Practice, and Bullpens) while families are introduced to coaches and receive valuable information concerning the program's goals, player fees, and overall expectations. At the conclusion of the tryout, each coach makes their roster selections and contacts ALL players to inform them of their decisions.
Often times, at the conclusion of the August tryout, Sluggers coaches will elect to form scout teams and / or a fall league. Fall participation provides coaches with a valuable opportunity to take a "long look" at their selected players and identify their strengths and weaknesses so that they may be addressed in the winter months. Scout teams / fall leagues also provide an opportunity for players who did not attend the original August workout to show off their skills and become more acclimated to the program. If a scout team / fall league participant excels during these situations, they may also be chosen for their respective age level team by a Slugger coach.
During the winter months, Sluggers players regularly have weekly inside facility workouts in order to better prepare them for the season once cold weather clears. At this time, a Slugger coach or interested players may contact one another in order to set up an individual tryout.
IN SEASON PLAYER TRANSFER PROTOCOL
As a travel baseball organization, the Summit City Sluggers acknowledges that we are not bound to the rules / regulations of a national sanctioning body. Despite this, we believe that there should be an ethical code in regards to players transferring in-season from one travel baseball organization to another. Therefore, we have established this protocol toward the goal of consistently acting in an honest and responsible fashion.
When a player from another organization contacts a member of our organization;
1. Our coaches are free to conduct a tryout in order to gauge the player's abilities and potential benefit to the Summit City Sluggers organization.
2. In a reasonable period of time, any Sluggers coach who conducts a player tryout has a responsibility to contact the player and inform them of their options (May be accepted or declined as a member of the organization.)
3. Once the player has been offered a position with the Summit City Sluggers, they have the responsibility to inform their previous team of their decision to join the Sluggers.
4. After the player has informed his previous organization of his decision to join the Sluggers, either a Sluggers coach or board member then has a responsibility to contact the previous organization's coach in order to explain the timeline in which events took place.
5. Any monetary negotiation between the new roster addition and his previous organization are the responsibility of the player and / or his family. At no time should a Sluggers coach engage in this process.
PLEASE NOTE: SLUGGERS COACHES MAY NOT ACTIVELY RECRUIT / MAKE INITIAL CONTACT WITH A MEMBER OF ANY OTHER ORGANIZATION
DURING THE REGULAR SUMMER PLAYING SEASON!
With this protocol in place, it is believed that we as an organization will maintain our good
name and reputation. Further, it is hoped that we might establish a standard by which ALL travel baseball organizations will follow.
