College Coach Speaks Highly of Slugger Program

There will ALWAYS be a place in our program for Sluggers kids.  When you get a Slugger, you know he's been coached, that he's been exposed to good competition, and most importantly he loves the game!

2011 Slugger Alumni Sums Up His Sluggers Experience

"Playing for the Summit City Sluggers was a remarkable experience. I played with a well-rounded group of guys where we traveled to Atlanta to the World Series and I have become very good friends with them. We had so many highly recruited players that are going to places like IU, Dayton, and Coastal Carolina that it just made you want to work so hard to get to those types of colleges. Coach Sebastian did an amazing job pushing me to be a great player. He helped me realize how unique the game of baseball is and to enjoy every second of it because sooner or later, it's going to end."

Grant Wilson

"Slugger coach Dustin Sebastian has devoted himself to helping me with my balance and technique, without trying to change me or my pitching style. Dustin has pushed me mentally and physically to improve my delivery and has made me a stronger person with his persistence.  I am grateful I had the opportunity to have a coach who cares about us as both players and as people."

University of Miami Representative Conversation

"Coaches - on the late night ride home from Oxford, Ohio, another Sluggers dad shared with me a conversation he had with a University of Miami representative. Very impressed with Slugger players...hustled after foul balls, in-the-hole batter retrieving bat as on deck player went to bat, team hustling on on and off field, taking hat and glove to field for kids on base or had just batted, no drama if calls went against them, way they listened to their coaches, and he could see they enjoyed playing. These are compliments to both our coach and to the organization. I overheard a parent of the team we played in Championship game say the semi's were the real title game 'cause his son's team could not compete with either the Northshore team or the Sluggers. He proved to be correct. Thank you for all you are doing for kids."

The Sluggers 14U Team

"The Slugger's 14U team recently played in a Covington, Ohio Tourney. They won the event (5-0). The purpose of this e-mail is to share with you and the organization the complement that was given by the tourney director during the trophy presentation. The director thanked Coach Baker and the Slugger's for traveling so far and participating in their tourney. He then stated that out of all the tourney's he's hosted, the Slugger's demonstrated, by far,  the best team sportsmanship he could ever recall. He went on to say that when the Slugger's clearly dominated their opponent, they carried themselves with pride, exerted hustle, but maintained respect for the other team. He concluded that the parents and players had every reason to be proud.

During the post game team meeting, I overheard Coach Baker tell his players that the remarks of the tourney director meant more to him than the trophies they had received. The players agreed.

I thought you and the organization would like to know that your new Coach is not only developing baseball players and sharing his love for the game, but also teaching boys how to be young men."

Nutrition Notes

Heath,

I just wanted to say thank you for the nutritional session you held for the Sluggers baseball team. My wife and I took it seriously and in the three weeks since we have tried to follow some of you suggestions – specifically a lot more fruits and vegetables. I was drinking a lot of tea with artificial sweetener and have not had the sweetener since the meeting. Instead, we make our own green tea with a little sugar. Our grocery cart looks much different and our family has eaten more veggies in the last three weeks than probably in the previous 4 or 5 months. In the time since the meeting I have lost 7 pounds and my wife has lost 5 pounds even though our goal was not weight loss but healthier eating. We still have a lot to change but one step at a time.
We did some traveling last week and realize that it is tough to eat even halfway decent on the road. I was wondering if you have any suggestions for on the road eating (we did pack a cooler which helped). Also, you spoke about vitamin and fish oil tablets. Do you have these or where would you suggest purchasing?

Hitting Camp

Mark,

Alex attended the Bobby Pierce hitting camp today and I just wanted to tell you what a great camp this was! It was well worth the time and money. Thank you for arranging it.

Coach Bobby Pierce Hitting Camp on 1/9/10

This was definitely worth the money dad!" First words out of my son Collin's mouth when he got into the car after we attended the camp yesterday at the YMCA Annex in Bluffton.
We want to thank the Sluggers organization for making both the opportunity and the facility available at an affordable price and location close to our proximity. There were 6 participants - 4 high school boys and another 14-yr old besides our son Collin. Coach paid a great deal of attention to ALL participants equally and focused on many details about hitting. One of the high school boys came all the way from Rushville!
I thought Coach Pierce was fantastic in his presentation. Yes, lots of details, great knowledge, and positive encouragement. Since we are from South Adams , and our nickname is the Starfires, coach Pierce began with explaining what he termed his "STAR" philosophy. Needless to say, his use of this acronym will definitely stick with our son. One other teaching technique I particularly appreciated about coach Pierce was his use of pictures (worth a thousand words you know) to help the hitters formulate a "snapshot" utilizing the batting techniques he drilled over the 3-hr period.

With appreciation,
