The Summit City Sluggers would like to congratulate Nick McCoy (Central Noble HS.) McCoy, a member of the Summit City Sluggers for 3 years, signed his official Letter of Intent to accept a baseball scholarship at Coastal Carolina University. Coastal Carolina, a member of the Big South Conference, has had a remarkable level of baseball success at the NCAA Division I level in recent years. McCoy hopes to repeat the standard of success at Coastal Carolina that has been established by former Sluggers Andy Delagarza and Scott Woodward (Both MLB Drafts.)

After the Mobile BayBears finished celebrating their Southern League Championship on Sunday night in Knoxville, Tenn., manager Turner Ward gathered the players together.
He said he had one more piece of information. “Parker's going to the big leagues,” Ward said.
Jarrod Parker, the standout pitcher from Norwell High School, relayed that story to his father, Brent, in a Sunday night phone call that every baseball player dreams of making and every baseball father dreams of receiving.
“It was a real exciting night,” Brent Parker said. “It had to be music to his ears to hear that.”
Jarrod Parker flew from Knoxville to Phoenix, Ariz., to join the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday, living off adrenalin and little sleep, his father said.
It's been a long, but rewarding climb for Parker, the No.9 pick in the 2007 Major League Draft. After starting strong on his journey in the Diamondbacks' minor-league system, he had to undergo “Tommy John” elbow ligament replacement surgery in 2009 and work his way back. By performing well at Mobile (Ala.) this season – he was 11-8 with a 3.79 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 130 innings for the Class AA team – he earned the chance to prove himself further with the Diamondbacks.
“There are no guarantees in the game,” Brent Parker said. “After the surgery, it was a long 18 months getting himself healthy again. This is nice to know that he worked hard and got back to where he needed to be.”
It's impossible to say when Parker might get a chance to throw his first big-league pitch. Arizona leads the National League West, so it's possible he won't pitch until the Diamondbacks clinch a playoff berth. Or there could be a game where the score and situation allows him to throw an inning.
Parker, who played for the Summit City Sluggers for 4 summers, becomes the program’s first Major League Baseball player.

Ryne Otis has 30 career home runs for the Trojans.
2011 NAIA Baseball All-Americans
KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Taylor University junior Ryne Otis added to his list of accomplishments Monday after being named a 2011 NAIA Baseball Honorable Mention All-America selection. A first baseman from Ossian, Ind., Otis was the only player from the state of Indiana and the only player from the Mid-Central College Conference to earn All-American status out of 70 NAIA honorees.
The selections were made by the NAIA-Baseball Coaches Association (BCA) All-America Selection Committee. Seventeen players were selected to each the First and Second Teams, while 36 other players were honorable mentions.
Otis dominated at the plate in 2011 and earned his first career MCC Player of the Year honor and his third straight selection to the MCC All-Conference First Team after leading the league in slugging percentage (.686) and total bases (118). He ranked second in the MCC in batting average (.390), home runs (9), triples (4), doubles (16), and runs (53). His totals in hits (67), RBIs (44), and stolen bases (15) also ranked among the top 5 in the MCC.
In conference play, Otis hit .432 (32-for-74) with six homers, 28 RBIs, 28 runs scored, and nine stolen bases in 22 games.
A staple at first base for the Trojans over the last three seasons, Otis led the league with 359 putouts and led all Taylor position players with a .989 fielding percentage by committing just four errors in 377 chances this season.
Otis' selection marks the second straight year that a Taylor player has garnered NAIA Honorable Mention All-America status, following Michael Kraynak's recognition in 2010.
This summer, Otis will play with fellow Taylor junior and high school teammate Rhett Goodmiller (Another Former Slugger) for the Battle Creek Bombers of the prestigious Northwoods Summer League.
The Summit City Sluggers organization would like to congratulate former Slugger Scott Woodward. After an outstanding career at Coastal Carolina University, Woodward was selected in the 7th round of the 2011 MLB draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Scott will reportedly begin his pro career as a member of the Ogden (UT) Raptors, the Dodgers affiliate in short season rookie ball.

During the summer of 2011, the Summit City Sluggers program volunteered service to the Adams County Agape League. The Agape League, designed as an avenue for developmentally challenged participants to play the great game of baseball, relies on strong grass roots support to survive. By pitching in, Sluggers players served as player assistants who assisted participants in learning / playing actual games against live competition. In return for their contribution, Sluggers players received tremendous life lessons such as the importance of patience, understanding, and compassion for others. Realizing the value that this opportunity had for both the Agape League and for the Summit City Sluggers program, the Sluggers look forward to continued involvement with our dear friends from Adams County.
